Mixology Monday’s (http://mixologymonday.com/) is a monthly online cocktail party where Mixologists far and wide come together to swap recipes and present their themed drinks to an appreciative audience. This month’s theme is Punch, and is being hosted by Hobson’s Choice (http://nochoiceatall.blogspot.com/2010/03/mxmo-xlvii-punch.html)
After some deliberation, I ended up chosing something which would be as interesting without booze as with – It was likely I was going to end up drinking the whole thing myself, and it’s a rare evening where I imbibe a cup or more of Rum…

This is what happens when you peruse CocktailDB too much – You come across a drink you really want to try, but you don’t *quite* have all the right ingredients…

Rose Gin Fizz

This one is pretty simple – My first experiment with my Rose infused simple syrup:

Rose Gin Fizz

1.5 oz Gin (I used Plymouth, but I imagine any would work)

.5 oz Lime juice

.5 oz Rose infused simple syrup

Shake with ice, strain into an ice-filled glass Collins glass and top with Soda. Stir gently a few times to ensure everything is mixed.

It’s pretty much your standard Gin fizz. The rose flavour comes through, though subtly. All in all, it’s a light, refreshing drink. Tasty!

Cheers

Infused Simple Syrups

Made a few different infused syrups tonight. Partially to use some stuff up, partially out of boredom, partially because I’m planning to meet up with a couple of friends tomorrow night and I wanted to have some neat drinks for them to try – Experimentation is so much more fun with company (…And get your mind out of the gutter. >.<)

The tea which I am indulging in this fine evening is Uji Gyokuro “Touru Jiru Shi” from O-cha (http://www.o-cha.com/uji-gyokuro.html). It is a very, very nice Japanese Green. However, it is fickle as hell to brew correctly- Any mistakes and you end up with a rather unpleasant cuppa. But when you get it right, it’s fantastic.

Apparently February 22nd is National Margarita Day in the US, so this is a day late, but I’m Canadian – Sue me. We do things differently up here.

Normally this is where I would rant about how people have taken a once-great cocktail and popularized it as a neon coloured, sickly sweet, vile slushy mess but…meh. If that’s what floats your boat, I’m not going to stop you. I will say it’s *wrong*, but c’est la vie.  In other words, to paraphrase…well, someone: I disprove of what you drink, but I will defend to the death your right to drink it!

That being said, if you’ve never taken the time to make a proper Margarita, do it soon. You’re missing out on a great drink.

What better way to start off a blog about Booze and Tea then a cocktail that incorporate the two of them together? Or tries to, at least.

But let’s start at the beginning…

Welcome to my corner of the net.  Here we’re going to be talking about my two favourite types of beverages: Tea and Cocktails (And hopefully their intersection, heh).

No content yet, but that should change by the end of the day.

Minor note: While I intend for this to primarily be a beverage blog, I’m sure there is going to be the occasional rant or rambling about politics, religion, science, dumb people, etc etc.  They will be flagged and tagged as such, so feel free to ignore ’em
